JM FAMILY– BI SOLUTION CONSOLIDATION

Challenge

JM Family, Inc. used a large number of departmental BI solutions across its organization, which were developed using a variety of tools and architectures. To improve Business Intelligence (BI) delivery and reduce costs associated with reporting, the company wanted to consolidate the solutions into an enterprise BI solution based on Cognos tools.

Solution/Results:

Analyzed the existing corporate BI environment; and designed and implemented a strategy to consolidate and streamline multiple solutions into an integrated, enterprise-class BI environment capable of delivering business information to all JM Family corporate users. Recommended centralizing BI administration and support into a new Business Intelligence Competency Center – an organization tasked with managing, supporting, and promoting BI usage throughout JM Family.  Used Cognos Impromptu Web Report (IWR) to consolidate a number of existing servers into one production and one staging BI delivery server. Developed and documented policies, procedures, and best practices for BI development and delivery. Worked with JM Family to plan a future phase to establish a BI Competency Center, assess existing and future BI needs, and consolidate production reporting and information delivery solutions into the Cognos environment.
